  • *The Honmaru-goten Palace and Painting Gallery tickets do not include the castle admission fee. A separate castle admission ticket must be purchased.
  • *If you wish to visit the Ninomaru-goten Palace after purchasing a general admission ticket only, please purchase an additional ticket for the Ninomaru-goten Palace (500 yen for adults, 400 yen for groups) at the Information Desk after entering the castle.
  • *Please purchase tickets for the Painting Gallery at the Painting Gallery or the General Information Desk after entering the castle.
  • *Prior reservations are required to view the Honmaru-goten Palace. Please purchase web tickets in advance (available from 30 days prior to the date of your visit). Advance reservations (web tickets) are required even for those who are exempted from the castle admission fee.
  • *The Honmaru-goten Palace does not have group rates because of the protection of cultural properties such as the partition paintings, the lack of sufficient space for passageways inside the building, and the limited number of people who can visit.

Kyoto City Citizen Annual Passport

Scope of use

  • The passport can be used for admission to the castle, the Ninomaru-goten Palace, the Honmaru-goten Palace, and the Painting Gallery.
  • It can be used during regular daytime opening hours. It cannot be used for various special events such as nighttime lighting.
  • Prior reservations are required to view the Honmaru-goten Palace. Please make a reservation for viewing in advance through the web ticket.

Issuing procedure

  • Please present a document that verifies your address (driver’s license, resident card, etc.) at the Nijo-jo Castle Ticket Office to purchase a Kyoto City Citizen Annual Passport exchange ticket.
  • After entering the castle, please present your voucher at the General Information Desk and fill out the application form.
  • The annual passport will be issued after a facial photo is taken. Please stop by the General Information Desk again when you leave, as it takes a certain amount of time to prepare the tickets.
  • The passport can only be used by the purchaser.
  • Fees are non-refundable, non-resaleable, non-exchangeable, and non-transferable.

Usage method

  • Please present your passport to the staff when entering the castle and viewing each facility.

Exemption from castle admission fee, etc.

The following visitors are exempted from the castle admission fee, the Ninomaru-goten Palace admission fee, the Honmaru-goten Palace admission fee, and the Painting Gallery admission fee.

[Note] Viewing Honmaru-goten Palace
Prior reservations are required to view the Honmaru-goten Palace. Even those who are exempt from castle admission fee should make a reservation for viewing in advance through the web ticket.

Eligibility

  1. Free of charge for elementary and junior high school students living in Kyoto City or students attending elementary or junior high school in Kyoto City. (We will confirm address and school name at each entrance.)
  2. Free of charge for people 70 years old and over who live in Kyoto City. (Please show your driver’s license, health insurance card, Kyoto City Respect-for-Senior-Citizens card, etc. at each entrance.)
  3. Free of charge for holders of the Physical Disability Certificate, Rehabilitation Certificate, War Injury and Sickness Certificate, Atomic Bomb Survivor’s Certificates, Mental Disability Certificate, etc., and one caregiver. (Please show the above certificates at each entrance.)

Exemptions for guides

Guides, including leading teachers and chaperones, who accompany students and visitors to the castle are exempt from the castle admission fee. Please present identification at each entrance. (Please note that you cannot be considered exempt if you are not accompanied by a student or visitor.)

We appreciate your cooperation in guiding visitors to the castle for smooth entry and viewing.

Prior reservations are required to view the Honmaru-goten Palace. Even leading teachers and chaperones should make a reservation for viewing in advance through the web ticket.

Exemptions for Special Needs Schools, Special Needs Classes, etc.

Castle admission fee, etc. will be waived for the following eligible facilities. Please submit the following application form by mail no later than 10 days prior to your visit.
*Nijo-jo Castle will not contact you to notify you of permission.

On the day of your visit, please inform the ticket gate counter that you have submitted a exemption application form and the name of your school.

Prior reservations are required to view the Honmaru-goten Palace. Along with submitting the exemption application form, please make a reservation for viewing through web ticket. At the entrance to the Honmaru-goten Palace, please present your web ticket and a copy of your exemption application.

Group Tours of Elementary and Junior High Schools in Kyoto City

Please submit the following group visit notification form by fax or post.

Prior reservations are required to view the Honmaru-goten Palace. For viewings, along with submitting the notification form, please make a reservation for viewing through web ticket.
The number of visitors to the Honmaru-goten Palace is limited due to the protection of cultural properties such as the partition paintings, as well as the fact that the passageways inside the building are not wide enough. (About 15 people enter the building at each hour.) Please note that the number of web tickets purchased is also limited for this reason.
